Cipo wins again! And sure enough, he was snubbed by the Tour de France again, too! What a week... My own cycling adventure this afternoon came in the form of trying to fix a flat tire. I've had a bike for two years now and still am afraid of it. That is, much like a car, you want to just drive the thing and not worry about it, but there's all sorts of little things you need to know about and do once in a while and if you let them slide long enough eventually they pile up on you and then you've got a $600 coat rack until you've got them fixed. Last weekend I was all set to throw the bikes in the van and take Chloe somewhere for a quick ride, and in the process of pumping up the tires I blew the rear one out. Not by overinflating, but actually by yanking the valve right off the tube when I went to detach the pump. So today I stopped in at the friendly neighborhood bikeshop (Landry's in Framingham), and picked up a couple of spare tubes, since this one didn't look patchable anyway. Taking off the rear wheel wasn't so bad (did that yesterday), and replacing the tube and putting the wheel back on went fairly smoothly, also. It wasn't until I was primed for a test drive that I noticed the front wheel was flat, and it appears to have a major leak also. By then it was dinnertime and I was running out of daylight, so we'll have to come back for round two tomorrow. I think I was overinflating the tires anyway, which probably hastened their demise, considering I don't ride the thing that much. Tomorrow is the last of three gorgeous days in a row, so it's basically the last chance this week to go for a quick spin, so if I can get the front wheel off, I should be all set.
